Last night, I helped my daughter with lines from a class play -- Rumplestilskin.
As I read the lines for the first time in decades, it occured to me -- these are very odd concepts to be giving youths.
1. Low self esteem based on financial worth: the father lies to the king by saying his daughter can spin straw into gold. He does this so that "the king does not think of him as a common man."
2. Shallow leadership/worth of a woman based on her material worth - not her character: King is not interested in marrying girl unless she can make him "the richest man anywhere."
3. Daughter willing to sacrifice another (including unborn child) in order to advance her wealth and power -- and become queen.
All in all -- quite the odd story compared to values I try and demonstrate and share.
