Goodbye Gutenberg
Perhaps for the first time in my life, it did not happen. From the time I could read, I was aware of the daily newspaper. In junior high, I had a newspaper route.Today, no paper came.Yesterday I concluded that soy ink and pulp were no longer necessary as a means of information transfer. It is a profound feeling of a moment that I understand is part of the end of news distribution that begain in this country with the publication of Publik Occurances in 1620.Today it ended for me.

To see ourselves as others see us
Here is a 12 year-old boy from Korea -- halfway around the world and staying with strangers.
Ricky is showing him Guitar Hero. In the first game, Ji-Hoon beat Ricky. Ji-Hoon had never played before. He also beat Ricky at chess with little apparent effort.
He loves our cat Jack. Pets are nearly unknown in Korea due to its populations density. He is awed by the size of houses here. He had never seen Rice Krispies before. During the night, he was up several times. perhaps excited, perhaps his internal clock being off. Wandered into Ricky's room several times during the night to chat with Ricky. Ricky is being a good sport about it. Today our guests go to the Columbia Gorge. Tonight a pot luck at school.
